FLESH OF MY FLESH

Scripture Reading - Genesis 2:20-24 KJV

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

In the beginning God created all flesh for both humans and animals. It makes sense that like species should unite for reproduction and for this reason God said, “cursed is any man that lies with an animal” in Deuteronomy 27:21. It is interesting to note that God took one of Adam ribs but Adam also said that, “Eve was flesh of his flesh”. We know that God closed up Adam’s flesh after the procedure was over but what made Adam think that Eve was “flesh of his flesh”? The answer is simple he (Adam) looked at her skin and knew it was the same substance as his, which was taken from the earth. Although, some people interpret this verse to mean that only those of the same skin color should reproduce that is not correct because if God only wanted certain ethnics (cultures) to reproduce he could of created man and woman that way. The Lord could have written that specific instruction in the Holy Bible as a commandment, but He didn’t. The Lord is very clear that people of dissimilar beliefs will have more difficult challenges and in certain cases concerning Jews and Christians it is forbidden explicitly by the Word of God to marry outside your religion when you know God’s purpose for your marriage. God is very clear about what he desires for men and women as couples, and holy matrimony is God ordained as opposed to fornication or adultery committed by people. The Lord has shown His blessing upon couples from different ethnic background as long as they adopt His holy statutes. Remember Moses and Zipporah (Exodus 2:21,22), Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 4:13) and in the New Testament the parents of Timothy in Acts 16:1. It is not a matter of flesh (skin) color but rather faith, convictions and beliefs. This brings us to a greater revelation that yes, the scripture is literary speaking of skin and other natural tissues when speaking of flesh but it also has a spiritual meaning. The spiritual message of “flesh of my flesh” is that the woman should be speaking the same words as the man she is with. We know that Jesus was made flesh as the Word of God and we partake of His Flesh to become more like Him (God). Likewise, a good faithful daughter of God will eat and speak the words of her Father God to show forth the praises of Him who created her. This is why it will be easy to discern a true blessed woman of God when making a selection for the right spouse. Yes, the man should have his own vision from God to accomplish God’s Will for his life and the woman he has selected should also speak that same vision while continuing to speak God’s Word as a faithful child of God. So when we think of a husband and wife union we should also remember that without unity of words there is no unity of spirit (bone of my bones) which means even though they are the same flesh physically they will never be one flesh of tongue spiritually (words, purpose, direction) without the same speech. Since the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, and all Christians are one in Christ Jesus it only stands to reason that married couples would be one voice in their everyday life. Amen!
